Fresh tenders likely to select new operator for Jharsuguda Airport under UDAN

Bhubaneswar: As suspension of UDAN flight operations from newly-developed Jharsuguda Airport has triggered political slugfest, Union petroleum minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Wednesday said there could be fresh tender to select new an operator.

“Air Odisha is a bad operator. It was selected through tender process. The Union civil aviation ministry is reviewing the status. If necessary, steps will be taken to scarp the contract with Air Odisha and a fresh tender will be floated to select an airline to operate from Jharsuguda,” Dharmendra said.

The Union ministers’ reaction came a day after chief minister Naveen Patnaik requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to direct the Union civil aviation ministry for immediate restoration of UDAN flight operations from Jharsuguda.

Regional operator Air Odisha was selected to operate flight services from Jharsuguda to places like Bhubaneswar and Raipur under the regional connectivity scheme (RCS)- UDAN scheme.
