Gold rods hidden in pens seized

Trichy: Customs authorities recovered 599 grams of gold rods from a passenger who arrived at the Trichy international airport from Singapore by Scoot Air in the wee hours of Tuesday.
Customs officials said they became suspicious of the movements of the passenger, identified as N Narayanan, 50, while engaged in baggage checking and subsequently found gold concealed inside marker pens.
They seized six rectangular-shaped gold rods, all of 24 karat purity weighing 599 grams and valued at Rs 19.10 lakh from the passenger.
