HAL in talks with BIAL to re-open old Bengaluru airport

Bengaluru: Defence PSU Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is in talks with the Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) which operates the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) to re-open the old airport which has been defunct since the opening of KIA in 2008.

HAL chairman and managing director R Madhavan said: “We want the airport re-opened, and we’ve initiated talks with BIAL. So far we’ve not reached any agreement, but some of the points discussed include the remuneration HAL will receive — the airport will be leased out and HAL will continue to operate the air traffic control (ATC)— how BIAL wants to use the airport and so on…”

He could not immediately answer whether the HAL airport will be used for domestic flights only or if there are other plans.
