Indebted Jet withdraws economy fliers’ lounge access

As it struggles to keep itself afloat, with rising debt levels and higher oil prices taking a heavy toll on its profits, cash-strapped Jet Airways on Friday announced that it has withdrawn the complimentary lounge access provided to economy passengers. The Naresh Goyal-promoted airline revised its policy from December 1and has “temporarily suspended” the complimentary service at all domestic and international airports.
“Effective Dec 1, 2018, we have revised our complimentary lounge access policy for guests travelling in economy. Complimentary lounge access for JetPrivilege Platinum and Gold members travelling in economy will be temporarily suspended. Complimentary lounge access will continue to be provided for guests travelling in First Class and Première across our domestic and international network,” the posting on their website read.
Jet Airways did not issue any formal statement.
The airline said the revised policy is only applicable for guests travelling on flights operated by Jet Airways.
“For travel on flights operated by our codeshare/interline partner airlines, lounge access will continue to be offered to guests travelling in First Class and Premiere as per the existing policy. Eligible elite tier members of our partner airlines will not be provided complimentary lounge access when travelling in Economy on flights operated by Jet Airways,” the notification said.
According to the existing policy, Jet Privilege Platinum and Gold members could access international lounges at Toronto, Singapore, Sharjah, Muscat, Kuwait, Hong Kong, Dubai, Doha, Bangkok, Bahrain, Amsterdam, and Charles De Gaulle airport at Paris.
From December 1, Jet Privilege Platinum and Gold members will lose access to lounges at Bengaluru, Delhi, Chennai, Thiruvananthapuram, Hyderabad and Kolkata airports.
