Ahmedabad: Over 80 passengers of SpiceJet had a disappointing start to their Diwali vacation as the Ahmedabad-Jaisalmer flight (SG2933) was cancelled at the last minute owing to technical issues.
The airline then offered them cab service, another flight through a longer route or a refund, much to their dismay.
The airline had introduced the flight under the UDAN scheme on November 1. The passengers, many of them senior citizens, had booked the one-hour flight journey to avoid the 10-hour road journey to Jaisalmer, which is 600 km from Ahmedabad.
The flight was scheduled to depart at 2 pm but was cancelled at the last minute; the passengers claimed they were given the confirmation about the cancellation around 3 pm when they were waiting to board the flight.
They were given the option to accept a taxi ride or a flight via another longer route or a refund. The airline claimed that cancelling the flight was the only option they had after the delay due to a technical snag.
