Stakeholders for better utilisation of Gaya airport facilities

Gaya: Stakeholders including representatives of the Bodh Gaya-based foreign monasteries, tour operators, hoteliers etc on Saturday, while expressing concern over under utilisation of the state-of-the-art facilities available at the Gaya International airport, discussed the strategy for improvement.
Spread over an area of about 950 acres, the Gaya airport is about four times bigger than the Patna airport. Moreover, Gaya airport has got facilities like aerobridges and escalators, something not available in Patna. Yet, footfalls are well short of expectations.

Identifying the cause of underutilisation of infrastructure, the participants of the meet held at the airport conference room felt that special efforts are required to promote air travel in the region.

As of now, a single flight of the Air India operates between Gaya and Delhi. In tourist season (October-March) nearly half-a-dozen international flights too operate between Bodh Gaya and Bangkok and Yangoon etc. A large number of chartered flights too land in the tourist season.
