Air India flight to Delhi delayed for 7 hours, passengers hit

Bengaluru: Passengers of a New Delhi-bound Air India flight were stranded at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) on Saturday after it was delayed for more than seven hours.

The flight (AI 505) was supposed to take off from Bengaluru at 10am but was delayed due to technical issues. It finally departed at 5.15pm. An Air India spokesperson attributed the delay to technical problems but refused to divulge any more information.

About 200 passengers, including senior citizens and children, had a tough time. Ashwini Adivarekar, one of the passengers said: “We boarded the flight at 9.30am and crew members informed us about the engine malfunction. We were made to deboard at 11am. We weren’t told which flight we would be accommodate on. The crew members were also clueless.”

Passengers claimed they weren’t provided adequate refreshments. “They made us board another aircraft at 1.30pm but around 3pm, the captain announced his duty time was over and the flight would take off only when the next crew arrives or DGCA allows extension of their shift,” said Adivarekar.
