Flight services to and from Kolhapur resume

Kolhapur: It took an hour’s delay for the inaugural flight from Hyderabad to reach Kolhapur, it finally landed at 1.12pm at Kolhapur airport and received a water cannon salute.
This started a new chapter in the city’s aviation history. The 70-seater Alliance Air plane was scheduled to land at Kolhapur airport at 12.10pm and onlookers had gathered in the airport premises to witness the landing.

According to the Alliance air station manager at Kolhapur, as many as 152 passengers travelled to and from the city on the first day of the new operations. The morning flight that arrived from Hyderabad had 20 passengers, while the same flight, which later departed for Bengaluru, witnessed 43 passengers getting on-board. The return flight from Bengaluru to Kolhapur saw the highest number of people travelling on the day with 48 passengers flying to the city. The last flight of the day had 41 passengers on-board and departed to Hyderabad from the city. Each ticket cost around Rs1880 on the first day for all the different flights.

Akash Jain, a city-based businessman, who flew on the Hyderabad to Kolhapur flight, said that the arrival was on time, however, due to certain visibility issues at the Kolhapur airport, the flight had been delayed by some time.

“We are happy that air service has finally resumed to and from the city. It is going to help the city prosper in many different ways,” he said.
