Gold worth Rs 9 8 lakh seized by Customs at Airport

Chennai: Officers of the Customs at Chennai Anna International Airport on Sunday seized 620 gm gold plates, valued at Rs 9.8 lakh, from a passenger who arrived from Dubai.
An official release here said the passenger, Rajapandi Krishnan (35), who arrived from Dubai by an Air India flight, was intercepted at the exit of arrival hall on suspicion of carrying gold.
On examination of his checked in luggage, one Omron Nebuliser was recovered in addition to other personal clothing items.
As the nebuliser appeared to be unusually heavy. It was opened and on dismantling, gold plates weighing 620 gm of 12 K purity valued at Rs. 9.8 lakh were found concealed inside the compressor of nebulizer.
