‘Harassed’ in Dubai, flyer strips on flight to India

Lucknow: Around 150 passengers on board an Air India flight from Dubai to Lucknow were in for a rude shock when a 35-year-old male passenger stripped mid-air and started walking down the aisle. The incident took place on Saturday but was reported on Sunday.

Surendra, 35, was on board Air India express aircraft (IX-194) that was scheduled to arrive in Lucknow at 2pm on Saturday. Air India officials said Surendra got up from his seat, stood in the aisle and stripped, leaving the passengers in a state of shock. The aircraft crew had to hold him down and wrap him in a blanket.

Though the reason behind his action was not known, Air India officials said the passenger was under “mental trauma” following alleged harassment by his Dubai-based employer.

After the aircraft landed at the Amausi airport in Lucknow, Surendra, a resident of Unnao, was handed over to the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) for inquiry. A CISF official told TOI that Surendra’s employer, a Pakistani, often harassed him and denied him his due leave. “Surendra thought that the flight would land in Pakistan and therefore he stripped in protest,” said the official, adding that he was later let off.
