Kolhapur-Mumbai flights likely by March 2019

Kolhapur: With a second tender out for the Kolhapur-Mumbai air route, the city is likely to get connected with the state capital by March next year, said Samir Seth, an advisory committee member of the Kolhapur airport.
He added that the first tender was out on December 13 earlier this month, while the second tender was out on December 28.

The awarding of the route and other related formalities will be done after the third tender is out, which is likely to take place by January 8 or 9, next year.

According to Samir Seth, as many as three airlines are interested in the said route for commercial operations, which falls under UDAN (Udey Desh ka Aam Nagrik) phase 3.

Seth also said that the Kolhapur airport is already getting a better response on the Bengaluru and Hyderabad routes and the flight to Mumbai is likely to double the number of air passengers for the city.

Meanwhile, Regional Executive Director (Western region) of the Airports Authority of India (AAI) Keshav Sharma visited the Kolhapur airport on Friday and conducted a surprise inspection.
