Kolkata: A woman was arrested for allegedly smoking inside the toilet of an aircraft during the course of a journey to Kolkata on Sunday afternoon.
The woman was handed over to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport police station by the security staff of the airline company and airport security personnel.
Police said, the 28-year-old city resident was on board a 6E-596 Kolkata-bound Indigo Airlines flight from Guwahati when the incident happened.
Airline officials said the woman had even tried to tamper with the smoke detector machine installed in the lavatory of the aircraft but the cabin crew caught her smoking it during a sudden inspection after she had come out and forwarded a written complaint to the ground staff and airport authorities.
“The moment we receive a written complaint from the cabin crew, we have no option but to lodge a general diary with the police and hand over the passenger to the cops for necessary action,” said a senior IndiGo official.
