Landing aid to be available at Chandigarh from today

Mohali: A day after TOI reported that the Chandigarh airport has faltered in commissioning the runway lighting and Instrument Landing System (ILS-I), the Chandigarh International Airport Limited (CHIAL) on Monday announced ILS would be made available with immediate effect from Tuesday and aircraft could land in minimum visibility of 1,200 metres.

During foggy conditions the visibility drops to 200 metres at the Chandigarh airport, which is in dire need of upgraded version of CAT ILS-I.
Fearing delays and cancellations owing to bad weather, many airline operators have withdrawn their flight operations from the international sector. Chandigarh saw two airline operators ending their Bangkok and Dubai flights. Chandigarh is left with just single international flight to Sharjah. Air India has already sought for temporary suspension or change in time slot for the Sharjah flight, said sources.
