New Delhi: If you are planning to travel between Christmas and New Year and have not booked your flight tickets yet, then it is highly possible that you may get tickets cheaper if you book now. Even you may get tickets cheaper than the advance booking prices.
According to a report in the Economic Times, airlines in India are not following their traditional fare economics and are selling tickets in advance booking at fares higher than last year but are reducing prices as the actual travel time approaches. Typically, ticket prices rise closer to the travel date as airlines take advantage of the last minute rush.
Although this could be a bonanza for travellers, airline's profitability is likely to be affected due to this.
“We have already seen an up to 8% year-on-year decline in fares when tickets are booked about 22-28 days before the travel date, compared to a 6% increase when they were booked a couple of months back for the same date of travel,” the business daily quoted Balu Ramachandra, head of the airline business at Cleartrip.com as saying.
