This winter, vacationers may get more flights from Chennai

Travellers heading to their hometowns or tourist spots to usher in the New Year may have more flights and destinations to choose from as airlines have applied for adding flights to existing routes and to start new services for the winter schedule from Chennai airport.
The schedule is put out from October to March with most new frequencies planned in December, January and February. Low cost carriers have added frequencies and have applied for a few new routes like Kannur and Nagpur from Chennai. There is going to be more flights to existing routes like Ahmedabad, Pune, Goa and other cities as airlines see a demand from passengers during the holidays. The flights are added and removed seasonally.

Six major airlines together have 613 flights from Chennai in the winter schedule. IndiGo has the most with 332 flights followed by 109 flights from SpiceJet, 92 from Jet Airways, 40 from Air India, 22 from GoAir and 18 from Vistara as per DGCA numbers.

However, the number of flights which airlines intend to fly from Chennai is lesser than the number of flights that will operate out of other metros. IndiGo has got 539 flights approved for Bengaluru. Jet Airways will fly 144 from Bengaluru while it has 92 from Chennai.
