Tourism officials miss launch event of Singapore flight

Pune: With the city getting its direct flight to Singapore starting this month, several top officials from Jet Airway’s India and Singapore teams, the civil aviation secretary and MPs and Singapore Tourism Board’s regional manager were invited to be a part of the inauguration ceremony of the international flight. However, officials from the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) and the India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) were not invited as there has been was no conversation between officials of the two countries to promote tourism in the state.
Raising his voice against this omission, a city-based aviation expert has written to the airlines as well as the aviation officials about how the MTDC and ITDC officials should have been a part of the interaction and the primary idea should have been to promote local tourism and not merely promoting tourism in Singapore.
Aviation expert Dhairyashil Vandekar told Mirror, “The importance of this route was well underlined by the presence of the important invitees at the inaugural function in Pune. However, I was disappointed to learn that MTDC officials were not invited. International flights are great drivers of economy and an opportunity to increase tourists from abroad will robustly contribute to our economic growth and also generate employment.
As an Indiabased airline I expected them to provide an equitable opportunity to our tourism departments as was given to the Singapore counterparts. I sincerely hope that Jet Airways will take a note of this and provide our local departments an equal opportunity at such events to be visible and to showcase themselves.”
