100 flights hit as fog continues to mess up travel plans

New Delhi: The capital saw dense fog again on Sunday that affected 75-100 flights and delayed 10 trains. However, the situation was better than Friday when over 500 flights were affected at the Indira Gandhi International Airport.

On Sunday, the lowest runway visual range recorded was around 200 metres. Officials said there were delays in departures and arrivals, but no flight was cancelled or diverted.

A minimum runway visual range of 50 metres is required for a flight to land safely if it is CAT III-B compliant. The minimum runway visual range for take off is 125 metres. “The early fog warnings at IGI airport on Monday were the reason why not many flight operations were affected,” said an official. Airlines also took to Twitter, asking passengers to check their flight timings in advance.
