Air India staffer among two held with gold

New Delhi: An Air India staffer is among two men arrested with 12 gold bars worth around Rs 45 lakh after they landed from Dubai at Indira Gandhi International Airport.
Customs officers said that on the basis of a tip-off, customs officers at IGI airport intercepted an Air India ground staffer with 1,399gm gold, which was handed over to him in the bay area by a man who arrived from Dubai by flight number AI 996 on Thursday.
The recovered gold bars have been seized under Section 110 of the Customs Act. With this the total value of the gold smuggled in the first 11 days of 2019, comes to almost Rs 1.8 crore.
Both the persons involved in the smuggling have been arrested under Section 104 of the Customs Act and further investigation is on, customs officials said.
