Air India suspends Gaya-Delhi flight

Gaya: Hundreds of air passengers who booked tickets for Varanasi and Delhi find themselves in limbo as Air India, the only operator of the Gaya-Varanasi- Delhi route, suddenly suspended its operation on the route.
“The sudden suspension could not have come at a worse time as this is the peak period of the six-month-long tourist season in Bodh Gaya,” says A Ojha, a hospitality sector expert. “The airlines has delivered a blow to the efforts of the state government to promote international tourism with Bodh Gaya as the epicentre,” Ojha added.

“Confirming the suspension of flight no A433, the only domestic flight from Gaya, Air India station manager PS Bhattacharya said the suspension is temporary. The flight will remain suspended between January 20-24 and again on January 26,” said the station manager. The airlines would try to minimise the inconvenience caused to passengers and they would be taken to Patna by road and accommodated in AI flights operating on Patna-Delhi route.

Asked about the cause of the flight suspension, the Airlines official said he has received communication from the headquarters saying that the operation was being suspended for Republic Day security measures.

“The official reason given for the nearly week-long suspension was very intriguing,” said Sanjay Sahay, a regular flier on the Gaya-Delhi route. Sahay wondered why only the domestic flight has been suspended in view of the Republic Day. AI and other foreign airlines will continue operations ahead of the Republic Day. “The airlines has invented a very weak alibi,” said Sahay.
