Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport gets its first runway rubber removal machine

Indore: The Indore airport is getting bigger and better. The surge in air traffic has prompted Airport Authority of India to provide Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport its first runway rubber removal machine.

Rubber removal machine is used to remove rubber deposits from touchdown zones on runway and all types of markings from both asphalt and concrete runways.

Airport officials said that this runway rubber removal machine, which costs around Rs5.37 crore would enhance safety and improve efficiency of operations at airport.

Indore has now got into the league of elite airports that would be provided with this machine. “This machine is one among 10 such machines procured by AAI for airports like Chennai, Kolkata, Ahmadabad, Guwahati, Jaipur, Trivandrum, Lucknow, Bhubneshwar, Calicut and Indore,” said airport director Aryama Sanyal.

She said that rubber deposit at runway has increased in past few months due to increase in air traffic.

“The rubber deposit removal from runway can be done efficiently with this new machine. Earlier, runway deposit was cleaned up manually and at times we also had to hire similar vehicles on lease to remove rubber deposits,” she said.
