DG BCAS assures CISF security at Surat airport

Surat: Director general of Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), Rakesh Asthana, who is former police commissioner of Surat, has assured security cover by Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) at Surat airport.
Replying to a Twitter message by RTI activist, Rajesh Modi, regarding posting of CISF personnel at Surat airport due to increase in passenger traffic at 1.50 lakh per month, domestic flights and international operations between Sharjah and Surat soon, Asthana said the demand for CISF at Surat will be definitely considered.

Last year, the then director general of CISF in a reply to the query regarding CISF deployment at Surat airport had stated that CISF was a need-based force and that its deployment was made as per the instructions of Ministry of Home Affairs. In case of airports, the nodal agency, BCAS is empowered to conduct a survey and the need for manpower is recommended to the MHA.

Rajesh Modi had written several letters to DG of BCAS for initiating a survey at Surat airport and recommend CISF manpower requirement to the MHA. He had even sent a detailed letter to the DG BCAS arguing why CISF was required at Surat airport.
