Jet Airways cancels 9W677; angry passengers create scene at Airport

Raipur: As many as 140 passengers from the Capital City, bound for New Delhi, were left stranded and frustrated at Swami Vivekananda Airport after Jet Airways cancelled its 9W677 flight on Saturday late evening at the nick of hour.

In obvious fallout of the situation, angry scenes were witnessed at the Customers Assistance Counter of the Jet Airways where passengers made heated exchanges with the staff present inside. The passengers were furious over the airlines staff for providing late information to them even all of them had already reached the airport with the luggage to board the Delhi-bound Boeing 737 (700) aircraft.

“In usual circumstances, the airline operators are bound to inform the passengers as well as Airports Authority of India (AAI) regarding the cancellation of any flight 3 hours well in advance. Pre-intimation of flight cancellation and delays are part of civil aviation Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). However, the Jet Airways today informed the AAI about the flight cancellation on a very short notice.

At around 1840 hours, a Whatsapp message confirming the cancellation of the flight was received by us. Sometime after which the passenger information billboard inside the airport terminal building also lighted up reading the cancellation of Jet Airways 9W677 flight, whose Schedule Time of Departure (STD) reads 1955 hours. The airways cited operation reasons behind the cancellation of the flight,” Raipur Airport Director Rakesh R Sahay told The Hitavada over phone.
