Bengaluru: The Karnataka government on Thursday cleared the much-awaited Rs 23,000-crore suburban railway corridor project and green-lighted a change in alignment of Namma Metro project to provide seamless connectivity to the Kempegowda International Airport.
The cabinet that met here on Thursday cleared the projects, which seek to ease traffic congestion on the city roads. “The projects are a New Year’s gift to Bengalureans,” co-operation minister Bandeppa Kashempur told reporters here.
As per the changed alignment, the Nagawara-airport Metro line will run via Hebbal and Jakkur.
Earlier, the alignment was to run through Ramakrishna Hegde Nagar and Jakkur. The objective of the alignment rejig, which will cost the state government Rs 5,000 crore, is to cover more areas. The length of the changed Metro line will be 38 km, nearly 9km more than the first plan.
