Kolhapur-Mumbai flight route likely to be announced next week

Kolhapur: The much-awaited Kolhapur-Mumbai air route is likely to be awarded to one of the operators most likely by next week, informed airport advisory committee member Samir Seth on Friday.

Seth added that the bidding process for the final tender was organised on January 8 and the proposals from three operators are under scrutiny.

He said three airlines are interested in the Kolhapur-Mumbai route for commercial operations that falls under central government’s UDAN (Udey Desh ka Aam Nagrik) scheme.

“A formal announcement regarding the same is likely to be made next week. The civil aviation authorities have confirmed development regarding the same,” he said.

According to Seth, city MP Dhananjay Mahadik has also suggested the need of different routes for the city airport to the civil aviation authorities. “New routes like Tirupati and Ahmedabad will also be added in the future,” he said.

He added that the Kolhapur airport is already getting a better response on the Bengaluru and Hyderabad routes. “Air Alliance, which started its operations on Hyderabad and Bengaluru routes from December 9 has received a great response. More than 3,800 passengers have made use of this facility till January 10,” he said.
