Man crushed under hydra crane at IGI

New Delhi: A 25-year-old man was crushed under a hydra crane at the IGI airport while he was helping his colleagues move heavy plastic pipes loaded on it, which tied with a rope. The incident happened on Monday when 49 pipes wrapped in two bundles were being moved from a construction site to the ATC tower.

The deceased’s brother, Bittu, said that his brother Kaalu lived on the airport premises and worked at a construction company there. On Monday, his supervisors asked them to tie the bundles with a rope and get it shifted, despite being warned of a mishap.

Bittu, who works at an electric company at the airport and stays there along with his family in the store room said, on Monday at 9am, he left for work along with Kaalu when his supervisors asked them to load the pipes on the hydra crane. The first bundle was of 21 pipes and second of 28, both of which were tied with a rope.

Bittu told the cops that they left from the construction site towards the ATC Tower. He even claimed to have warned the two supervisors that the pipes were falling off, but was asked to finish the work quickly instead.
