Odisha to form JV with AAI for Dhalbhumgarh airport

Ranchi: The state cabinet on Thursday gave its nod for a joint venture (JV) with the Airport Authority of India (AAI) for construction, development and operation of the proposed airport at Dhalbhumgarh in East Singhbhum district. An MoU of the JV will be signed between AAI and the state government at a later date, additional chief secretary (cabinet cum home) SKG Rahate said.
Transport secretary Praveen Toppo, who was present in the media briefing, said AAI and state would have 51% and 49% equity shares in the JV. He further said the Capex (capital expenditure) amounting to around Rs 100 crore would be borne by the AAI while the state government would meet the shortfall between the revenue generation and the Opex (operational expenditure) for the first 10 years. Later, the JV will manage the Opex as well.

Toppo said that state would provide 240 acre for the JV and the ‘bhumi pujan’ would be conducted by chief minister Raghubar Das at the airport site on January 24. He said in the first phase, 72-seater aircraft would start operating from the airport.

Rahate also said according to civil aviation ministry’s policy, new airports across the country are now being constructed and developed in partnership with respective state governments.

He further said the cabinet gave its nod to eight more proposals, including a bill for formation of a Scheduled Tribe Commission in state. The bill will be presented in current budget session of the assembly, he said.

Rahate said the state government has also given consent for providing Rs 150 per quintal of foodgrains as bonus to farmers over and above the minimum support price fixed by the Union government. The plan will incur a cost of Rs 52 crores to the state exchequer.
