Pantnagar airport to get doppler for uninterrupted services

Rudrapur: The Airports Authority of India (AAI) is going to install Doppler Very High Frequency Omnidirectional Radio Range (DVOR) technology at Pantnagar airport in Udham Singh Nagar district for uninterrupted flight operations during bad weather and poor visibility.
In the absence of the technology, several flights were getting cancelled. Earlier, on January 4, the inaugural flight between Pantnagar and Dehradun was also cancelled due to low visibility.
SK Singh, director of Pantnagar airport, said that Distance Measuring Instrument (DMI) and DVOR, imported from the USA at a cost of Rs 80 crore, has reached Kandla port in Gujarat and will be installed in Pantnagar airport soon. He added, “A four-member team from Delhi has completed a survey and the new technology will be operational in another 20 days. The new system can calculate the accurate distance from the runway during low visibility and help the pilot while landing.”
