Tourism industry to submit proposal for intra-state and inter-state air connectivity

Kochi: Tourism industry is submitting a proposal to government to ensure more intra-state and inter-state air connectivity to boost the industry.
“Intra and inter-state air connectivity is important for growth. We have decided to submit a proposal to the government to take up the matter with Airports Authority of India. We urgently need more direct flights from other countries to Kerala,” said president of Kerala Travel Mart society Baby Mathew, who added Kerala was losing tourist due to poor air connectivity.
“There are Kochi-Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikode-Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode-Kochi flights and most of them are full. This shows if there are adequate facilities at a reasonable price, people will prefer flights to save time,” said Mathew. Abad Hotels MD Riaz Ahmed said that feasibility is an issue.
“There is opportunity to promote business/tourism activities in state. But to ensure this, state needs good infrastructure facilities, peaceful atmosphere, minimum controversies and good road connectivity to destinations,” said president of Indian Association of Tour Operators (Kerala) EM Najeeb.
There are few things that work against the idea, especially steep airport tax, passenger load, take-off and landing costs.
