YS Jaganmohan Reddy attack: NIA files chargesheet

Vijayawada: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday filed a chargesheet into the attack on YSRC chief YS Jaganmohan Reddy that happened on October 25, 2018 at Visakhapatnam airport.

The NIA has completed the investigation in 21 days after filing the FIR. The agency also told the court that it was the final chargesheet into the case, even though the investigation is still underway.

The chargesheet is yet to be accepted by the court, and the matter has been posted to Friday. Sources said the NIA has named only J Srinivasa Rao, the attacker, as accused.
This chargesheet, however, has put the AP government in quandary. The government has moved a writ petition opposing the decision of the Centre to hand over the case to the NIA. While the decision on the petition is pending with the high court, the NIA filed the chargesheet putting the government in a tricky situation.

Meanwhile, the advocates appearing for accused raised objections over the process of investigation by NIA. They filed three memos against the NIA, including a contempt memo. Matta Jayakar, counsel for Srinivasa Rao, argued that the NIA has violated the court order by taking away the accused without giving information to his lawyers.
