Ahmedabad: The Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) has decided to drop the Airport extension from Motera as the survey by the GMRC authorities has revealed that the Metro train is not likely to get adequate traffic.
The authorities cited the failure of the special BRT bus to Airport to drop the extension plans. The stretch had not been included in the detailed project report of the Metro from Motera to Gandhinagar, said officials. GMRC officials further said the Metro train to airport will have to pass through land owned by the defence forces which poses a significant issue. The GMRC had earlier decided to have a direct train to airport from Motera.
The officials said that an underground tunnel could have worked but will not be feasible given the expected low traffic and high costs required to build across the Sabarmati.
