‘Airlines owe AAI Rs. 2,400 crore in dues’

New Delhi: Various domestic and international airlines owe the state-owned Airports Authority of India (AAI) more than Rs 2,400 crore in dues, the government informed Parliament on Thursday.

Airlines pay airports for navigational and other services such as landing and parking.

Low-cost carrier SpiceJet owes AAI Rs105.71 crore, including penalties, and GoAir owes Rs19.35 crore, Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha told Lok Sabha.

The government added that it had taken up the matter with SpiceJet and called the money owed by GoAir “regular dues”.

The biggest defaulter is the erstwhile Kingfisher Airlines, which owes AAI Rs294 crore. The matter was brought to the court’s notice in 2014. Foreign operators also owe Rs312 crore to the authority.
