Patna: A Muscat-Kathmandu SalamAir flight (Airbus 320) was diverted to Patna airport on Tuesday due to bad weather in Nepal. The flight stayed at the city’s Jayaprakash Narayan International (JPNI) Airport for around one-and-a-half hours.
About 180 passengers, including three crew members, were on board when the pilot received information about bad weather and low-lying clouds in Kathmandu.
Patna airport’s assistant general manager (air traffic management) Santosh Kumar said they received information about the flight’s diversion around 9.35am.
“The flight was refuelled after it landed in Patna and the pilot and crew did the required paper work. The flight was diverted to Patna taking into consideration the safety of passengers and crew . It was no emergency landing,” he said.
JPNI director Rajender Singh Lahauria said the flight landed here at 9.56am and departed at 11.30am after getting green signal from the Air Traffic Control (ATC), Kathmandu.
“The flight was re-routed from Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) because of inclement weather,” he told this newspaper.
