CISF begins trial at Mumbai Airport T2 to stop stamping of domestic boarding cards

New Delhi: Domestic passengers flying out of Mumbai Airport’s terminal 2 (T2) will not have their boarding cards stamped till February-end. The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has started a “trial for pilot project of digi yatra” and elimination of boarding pass stamping. After seeing how the trial goes and whether any changes are required in the mechanism that has been put in place to end domestic boarding card stamping, the practice will stop for good at Mumbai’s T2 from a later date.

“The trial for pilot project has been commenced at Mumbai Airport for domestic sector flights operating from T2, (of) Air India, Jet Airways and Vistara. (Trial on till February-end) Frisker will not stamp boarding passes after frisking of passengers as boarding passes are being scanned at e-gates installed at pre-security hold area locations by scanners for validating 2D/QR code. Further, at boarding gate a pop up shows e-gate clearance authenticating that he has crossed primary e-gate positioned at pre-pre embarkation security check location,” a senior CISF official said.

The GVK Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL), which runs Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA), had on January 14 announced that it is equipped with latest technology that eliminates boarding pass stamping for domestic airlines operating out of Terminal 2.

“Passengers traveling within the country from T2 can now authenticate their boarding pass at pre-embarkation security check point by scanning the boarding pass barcode or QR code on the mobile phones at the E-gates Reader, using the Live Passenger Dataset. This authentication of boarding pass will eliminate the responsibility of CISF physical checking personnel to stamp the boarding pass…,” MIAL had said then, However even after this announcement domestic departing passengers at T2 often found that their boards were still being stamped.
