Chennai: Customs officers seized two cases of gold and intercepted three persons at the arrival section of the Anna International Airport on Sunday morning.
Istak Ali Kathim,48, Aslam Khan, 31, and Mahadirkur Khan, 29, had arrived from Dubai by Emirates Airlines flight EK 542, Indigo flight 6E 66 and Fly Dubai flight FZ 447. They were carrying home theatre systems in their check-in luggage. On close examination, the officers recovered gold worth 31 lakh which were hidden inside speakers and woofers. The items were seized under Customs Act.
In another case, air intelligence officers recovered 1.05 kg of gold hidden in the hollow pipe cavity of the passenger seat of the Air India flight AI 906 which had arrived from Dubai.
