Foreign, Indian currencies worth Rs 43.66 lakh seized from passenger at Madurai airport

Madurai: Officials of the air intelligence unit of the customs department seized foreign and Indian currencies worth Rs 43.66 lakh from a passenger at Madurai International Airport on Wednesday night. The foreign currencies were found concealed in a false cavity inside a stroller bag.
Acting on specific information, an AIU team led by assistant commissioner A Venkadesh Babu stopped the passenger, identified as R Parvathi Nathan of Tuticorin. He was about to board an Air India flight bound to Singapore.
When questioned, Parvathi Nathan gave contradictory information. The officials checked his stroller bag and found that he had created a false cavity at the bottom. The officials found foreign currencies, including euro and Singapore dollar, and Indian currencies in the denomination of Rs 2,000, in the cavity.
