Grounded flights, nixed plans peeve Amausi flyers

Lucknow: The cancellation of five flights left hundreds of passengers stranded at Amausi airport here on Wednesday. Passengers said the last minute cancellations put all their travel plans in doldrums as many of them were scheduled to attend weddings.

The five flights connecting Lucknow with Srinagar, Chandigarh and Dehradun were cancelled after a high alert was sounded and nine airports in north Indian were shut down for some hours amid escalation in hostilities with Pakistan on Wednesday.

Amausi airport officials told TOI that the flights cancelled were 6E 577 Lucknow-Dehradun IndiGo Airlines, 6E 576 Srinagar-Lucknow IndiGo Airlines, 6E 588 Dehradun-Lucknow Indi-Go Airlines, 9W 3524 Lucknow-Chandigarh Jet Airways, and 9W 3523 Chandigarh-Lucknow Jet Airways.

“I had to attend a wedding in Srinagar but could not go after the flight got cancelled,” said Roshan, 45, a businessman from Lucknow. “We were not told about the reason for cancellation but the airlines said that the money would be refunded,” he said.

“My daughter had to come from Chandigarh to attend an official meeting here. She could not even get a train reservation as her flight got cancelled. Now, she is coming by road,” said Tarun Kumar, a resident of Jopling Road.
