Jewar project: 900 farmers submit objections

Noida: Around 900 farmers, whose land will be acquired for the Jewar airport project, raised objections and submitted their feedback to the district administration on Wednesday.

Most of the farmers demanded four times compensation for their land as well as permanent jobs, officials said.

The state government had issued a notification under Section 19 of Land Acquisition Act on January 18. The administration then served notices to farm owners for acquisition of their land for the airport project.

Balram Singh, ADM (land acquisition), told TOI that “there is a provision to seek farm owners objections within one month after a notification is issued”. “We have received around 900 feedback and are analysing them. We will resolve the objections and then start disbursing compensation, most likely from February 18,” he said.

Rakesh Kumar, a member of Jewar Airport Kisan Sangharsh Samiti, said the local people are willing to give land for the project. “But we also demand suitable compensation for our land. We demand the government give us four times compensation. The administration has assured the farmers that their issues will be addressed,” he added.
