MiG 27 fighter jet crashes near Pokhran range in Jaisalmer, pilot ejects safely

Jaisalmer: A MiG 27 fighter aircraft crashed this evening in Rajasthan's Jaisalmer. The pilot of the crashed MiG 27 jet was reported to be safe.

The MiG 27 jet was flying on a training mission when it crashed at around 6:10 pm near the Pokhran range. The MiG 27 had taken off from the Jaisalmer Air Force Station. The pilot managed to eject safely.

An Indian Air Force Court of Inquiry will be set up to investigate the MiG 27 crash in Jaisalmer today.

News agnecy PTI reported that the MiG 27 crashed in Eta village in Pokaran tehsil of Rajasthan's Jaisalmer district.

"A MIG 27 aircraft airborne from Jaisalmer crashed during a routine mission today evening. Pilot ejected safely. A Court of Inquiry will investigate the cause of the accident," Defence spokesperson Col Sombit Ghosh was quoted as saying by the news agency.

Last year, a MiG 27 aircraft had crashed in Jodhpur, also in Rajasthan.
