New buildings to decongest Jaipur airport from May

Jaipur: In order to accommodate more passengers during rush hour, the Airport Authority of India (AAI) is coming up with new arrival and departure buildings at the terminal 2 of Jaipur airport.
Since terminal 2 has been overcrowded already, while it operates nearly 140 flights including arrivals and departures, the work of new buildings will de-congest the airport. The work is in progress and is likely to be completed by May this year.

The introduction of cheaper and affordable flights to various destinations and various lucrative offers promising cheaper tour packages has increased the buying capacity of the air travellers over the years. It has resulted in continued growth in the passenger footfall.

“Jaipur airport had handled 38 lakh passengers in 2016-17 and was followed by 47 lakh passengers in 2017-18. We are expecting that it will cross 55 lakh by the end of March 31 for 2018-18. Thus, there was a desperate need to have expansion of arrival and departures. We are hopeful that these buildings will get completed by May this year,” said Jaideep Singh Balhara, director, AAI, Jaipur.
Prior to this, Jaipur airport handled nearly 18.43 lakh passengers in 2012-13, followed by 19.88 lakh in 2013-14, 22.08 lakh in 2014-15, and nearly 29.04 lakh passengers were handled in 2015-16.
