Plane lands, passengers remain on board to observe one-minute silence for Pulwama martyrs

New Delhi: Indian air travellers are known to be in a hurry to leave aircraft after landing. But on Saturday (February 16) when Jet Airways’ 9W-676 Guwahati-Kolkata reached its destination, the passengers onboard stood in silence for a minute to pay homage to the martyrs of Pulwama.
This tribute for the brave CRPF jawans who were killed near Srinagar last Thursday came as the flight’s captain, Sarvesh Gupta, asked the senior cabin crew Roanne Rodrigues to make an announcement after landing requesting them to remain seated.
“After landing in Kolkata Captain Gupta announced, requesting guests to observe a minute’s silence and pray for the soldiers who had lost their lives. All guests bowed their heads in prayer for a minute after the announcement was made,” said a Jet employee.
Captain Gupta was present at the gate and greeted passengers as they exited the aircraft. Many passengers were so moved by his announcement and the minute’s silence that they “personally thanked him and shook his hands while deplaning,” the employee added.
The entire country is in mourning over the terror act in Kashmir last week. “We all want to pay our tribute in whichever way possible to our great martyrs,” said the employee.
