Pune airport slips to 55th spot in ACI ranking for quality of passenger services in India

Pune: Pune airport’s ranking among Indian airports in the 2 to 15 million passenger category has dropped to the 55th spot in 2018 from 39th in 2017, Airports Authority of India (AAI) statistics reveal.

According to the Airports Council International (ACI) rating for 20 AAI airports, Pune airport received 4.71 rating in 2018 as compared to 4.75 in 2017.

In 2017, under the category of best airport by size and sub category of airports handling passenger traffic of 5-15 million passengers per year, ACI had accorded Pune airport the 3rd place, along with Cochin and Kolkata, across the world. While the first spot was bagged by Hyderabad, the second spot was shared by Balikpapan (Indonesia) and Hohhot (China) airports.

The final ratings of airports across the world for 2018 by the ACI on passenger services (airport service quality) is still to be announced

“Though we don’t want to comment on rankings, the airport has developed many features within its limited space to provide better experience. Until the new terminal building is ready, we have been making several adjustments in the existing building and it has worked well,” said an airport official.

The last quarter (October-December 2018) survey results of ACI were announced in January, wherein Pune airport was positioned just one place up at 71st when compared to the 72nd spot in the third quarter survey for the same year. In the second quarter survey, the airport was way ahead at 37th position.
