Madurai: A petition was filed before the Madurai bench of the Madras high court to name Madurai airport after Meenakshi Amman.
The petitioner, C Selvakumar, president of the Tamil Nadu Devendrakula Vellalar Right redemption movement stated the authorities took most of the agricultural lands belonging to the people of their community for the establishment and subsequent expansion of the Madurai airport.
Since Madurai airport has started international operations, further lands will be acquisitioned from Ayanpappakudi, of which the majority population is Devendra Kula Vellalars, the petitioner stated.
