SVPI airport: T1 overcrowded, but Terminal-2 being upgraded

Ahmedabad: Even as the international terminal i.e. Terminal-2 (T2) of the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) Airport handles only 20% of the daily passenger movement and that too during the night time, Airports Authority of India (AAI) officials have recently undertaken the task of rearranging the security hold area at T2. Top sources confirmed that the security hold area is being rearranged to help expand the passenger-handling capacity at the terminal.

According to AAI data, some 35,000 passengers move in and out of the SVPI airport every day. Out of this, only 20% of passengers use the international terminal. The remaining passengers use the domestic terminal. When queried about reasons for increasing passenger handling capacity at Terminal-2 despite it being under-utilized, SVPI airport director, Manoj Gangal, said he will divulge details later.
