Take-off delayed as airport not ready

Bareilly: Unfinished works at Nath Nagari Civil Enclave Terminal — Bareilly Airport — have led officials postpone the commencement of commercial flights’ operation from February 28 to mid-March.

Director, Airport Authority of India (AAI), Bareilly, SK Singh said, “We have completed major works such as fire safety, but the construction of taxiway and apron is still underway. So, we will not be able to start flights from Thursday. I will carry out an on-site review of all tasks on Monday and I hope commercial flights will take off in the second week of March.”

Earlier this month, Union minister Santosh Gangwar had announced that the airport would become operational from February 28 after installation of porta-cabin.

Meanwhile, a team of technical experts has arrived from Lucknow for installation of different equipment. They will also check placement of various other things.

“Luggage x-ray machine has arrived, but it is yet to be installed and examined. Similarly, various other works, including placement of steel chairs at the passenger lounge, installation of CCTV cameras, setting up of server room, etc, are underway and their completion will take three to four days. Before commissioning of porta-cabin, we will hold a trial to ensure all equipment work properly,” a senior technical official told TOI.
