After a one-sided fourth ODI, India and New Zealand are set to lock horns in the fifth and final game of the series to be played in Wellington. But ahead of the game, a different topic has been the talk of the town and that is the way the visitors travelled to the venue. Team India took a two-hour detour on their way to Wellington for unknown reasons when there was a direct flight from Hamilton.
There is a 90-minute flight from Hamilton to Wellington which the New Zealand players took with all their spouses and reached the venue. But the Indian team first went to Auckland from Hamilton by bus and then took a flight of about an hour and a few minutes to reach Wellington. The team hotel is only 10 minutes away from the Wellington Airport but the reason for such a detour is still unknown.
According to the reports in Mumbai Mirror, none from the BCCI or the member associated with the team was willing to give the reason for taking a roundabout trip. Though a team source, on the condition of anonymity cleared that there was no discomfort in the travel on Friday and had no knowledge if any member of the team was unhappy.
“The bus journey was one hour, 45 minutes and the flight from Auckland to Wellington was just about an hour and there was a little rest in the airport lounge. The drive from Wellington airport to the hotel is just 10 minutes,” he said.
