New Delhi: Monday was a day of twin snags for Vistara. A morning Chennai-Kolkata flight suffered an inflight engine failure while descending to the destination. And a night Hyderabad-Delhi flight had to return to the origin minutes after take off after a snag. Both the planes landed safely and the airline is investigating the snags.
The Chennai to Kolkata reportedly suffered an inflight engine failure during descend while approaching its destination. Twin-engine aircraft can land safely on one engine and this Vistara Airbus A320 also did so in Kolkata at 9.14 am. The plane (VT-TTF) is now grounded there.
According to sources, UK-733 with almost 130 people on board had an engine failure while descending at 17,000 feet.
A Vistara spokesperson said: "We confirm that our flight UK 733 operating Chennai-Kolkata (Monday) experienced a technical malfunction in the right engine during descent. The pilots carried out the necessary procedures and proceeded to land safely at Kolkata International Airport."
"The customers were kept apprised of the situation at all times by the Commander of the flight. Vistara places the safety of its customers and crew as its top-most priority and does not compromise on any aspect of it. The aircraft is currently undergoing inspections and rectification process to address the issue,” the spokesperson added.
The Hyderabad-Delhi flight UK 870 took off at 9.12 pm. A few minutes after that it developed a snag and returned to Hyderabad to land safely at 9.51 pm, show flight tracking sites.
