'Why do people stand up when seatbelt sign is on': IndiGo asks on Twitter, unleashes range of emotions from flyers

New Delhi: It’s been one of the mysteries of India’s aviation story — why do passengers here start getting up from their seats when the aircraft is taxiing to the parking stand on arrival? For this reason, most airlines here announce, asking passengers to remains aged till the aircraft comes to a stop and not to try and take out their bags from overhead bins as that may fall on co-passengers and hurt them.

On Wednesday, India’s largest domestic airline IndiGo — which accounts for 41 of every 100 domestic passengers — ventured to get to the root of this mystery. In a tweet, IndiGo said it really (several times really) wants “to know why people stand up even when the seatbelt sign is on!”
That was enough to unleash a storm of emotions on Twitter. IndiGo tweeted this question at 5.09 pm and in just over two hours it had received hundred of likes, retweets and comments.

A number of comments were the usual angry ones aimed at the airline. These included: “really want to know why don’t you beat them with hunters?"; “we really (equal number of times really) want to know why do we have to pay for web check-ins”; “It’s like we really don’t know why u announce boarding and then make the people wait on aero bridges for eternity”; and “They are all really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, thirsty, hungry and angry.”
Some comments were funny and understanding, like: “Yes always intrigues me... Even before plane stops or gates open there is a mad rush to get up and take out bags and rush ahead of everyone else. # ShistBharat should be the next movement”; “Because, we feel, we might miss the next flight, hence we are in rush..”; and “Nice ...All are in hurry...for no reason..seems it's a fashion..” Among the funniest replies was “premature evacuation.”
