Air India flight to Sharjah to take off in April, declares Tai

Indore: The first regular international flight from Indore to Sharjah will be started by Air India in April, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan said on Wednesday.
“A demand to start international flight from Indore airport was long-expected and fulfilling the same, the authority concerned has approved a flight between Indore and Sharjah (UAE),” Mahajan said at a press conference convened to announce Indore airport’s achievements in the airport service quality rankings.

“As informed, Air India will start the service in April but the date was yet to be fixed,” she said.

She added that the international flight will also help in paving way for starting cargo service for transporting perishable crops and ‘namkeen’ from Indore to abroad. “The cargo service is expected to increase business and income of Indore district,” said Mahajan, further denying transportation of goats to UAE as rumours about it had recently resulted in objection by Jain community.

The LoK Sabha Speaker added that the airport director Aryama Sanyal is planning to develop a cold storage on the airport premises.

“I have instructed district collector, IDA CEO and airport director to coordinate in planning of extension of Super Corridor to connect it with Indore-Pithampur Road. It will divert traffic from the present stretch passing between the airport and Bijasan Mata Mandir,” Mahajan said.
