Airlines ask flyers to carry minimum hand baggage

Pune: Passengers travelling by flights to different destinations need to keep their hand baggage to the minimum and make sure that they reach and proceed for security checks at airports at least two hours prior to the departure of their flights, according to a notification issued in the wake of heightened security measures being implemented at various airports, including Pune.

An airline representative in Pune told TOI that like all airports, Pune facility too has implemented extra security checks. “Passengers have been requested via social media and other means to carry minimum hand baggage. Those carrying trolley bags need to hand over the same to the airline staff, which would be treated as checked baggage. By doing this, passengers will face less hassles. Security at airports is at its peak at this moment and there are additional checks wherever necessary,” the representative said.

Vistara, in a message on its Twitter page, said that it will permit pooling of hand baggage allowance with check-in allowance to facilitate bags being checked in free of cost. “Passengers who choose to use this pooled hand baggage plus checked baggage allowance facility will be permitted one small piece of hand baggage, such as a laptop bag, briefcase or ladies’ purse as hand baggage and their boarding passes will be marked accordingly,” the airline said. Airport sources said that security has been intensified to the highest level since the Pulwama terror strike and the subsequent tension between India and Pakistan.
