Airlines hike airfares by 20% for Jaipur-Mumbai route

Jaipur: The cancellation of Boeing 737 aircraft led to a steep hike in the air fares on Jaipur to Mumbai route. The rates have overnight increased by at least 20%, even higher for some private airlines, causing much inconvenience for travellers.
One of the main reasons for the hike is the cancellation of Jet Airways flight from Mumbai to Jaipur and back till March 30. Jaipur International Airport officials confirmed that the cancellation has happened due to Boeing 737 aircraft being grounded following the crash in Ethiopia. “No B737 Max aircraft will be allowed to enter or transit Indian airspace effective from 4:00 pm on Wednesday,” ministry of civil aviation stated. The Mumbai-Jaipur-Mumbai flight used the grounded aircraft and would usually take off at 8:45 pm in Jaipur. It would head back at 9:15 pm but now stands cancelled.
The travel and tour operators state that there has been approximately a 20% hike in airfares in particularly to the low-cost airlines like Indigo, Spicejet and GoAir. The prices have gone up for most of the flights of these airlines from Jaipur to Mumbai. While there are no flights available on this route on Thursday for Indigo and GoAir, SpiceJet quotes a minimum fare of Rs 26,309 for March 14. For Friday, Indigo and GoAir have the minimum fares as Rs 13,971 and Rs 33,333 respectively. The prices mentioned are non-inclusive of convenience fee and taxes.
Yoginder Singh Bhati who runs a travel agency in Jaipur added, “The low cost airlines are the ones which have increased their fares by almost 20%. The other airlines have generally stuck to the market price with not too much fluctuation.”
